The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the six-storey building is located at 43 Martins Street, Lagos Island.
It collapsed at about 8:30 pm on Tuesday, November 5, while fire fighters and rescue workers made continued efforts douse the inferno.
Olanrewaju Elegushi, an aide to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, confirmed the death of the policeman late Tuesday, November 5.
Elegushi disclosed that the policeman, who was severely wounded, died in hospital.
Ireporteronline earlier reported that the Balogun market, a popular trade centre in Lagos, was gutted by fire with a lot of wares lost.
Emergency and rescue workers remained at the scene battling to put out the fire.
Nosa Okunbor, spokesperson of the state’s emergency management agency (LASEMA), also stated that men of the agency found difficulties accessing the source of the fire in order to effectively put it out on time.
