JUST IN: Bandits Gun Down DPO

SP Kazeem Raheem, a Divisional Police Officer in Maru town, the headquarters of Zamfara state’s Maru local government area, was assassinated by bandits.

Raheem was murdered alongside a police sergeant who has yet to be identified and a vigilante.

A resident who requested anonymity told Daily Trust that the criminals had invaded the town to kidnap a businessman named Alhaji Iliyasu.

Earlier, armed men kidnapped his brother, who was reportedly released after a ransom was paid. They returned to kidnap him, but he managed to escape while they took his wife.

The DPO rallied his men to foil the criminals’ attempt to kidnap the businessman, but he was killed in the gunfight.

“It was a terrible experience. I woke up at the sound of heavy gunfire around 2am. Maru town has been under constant attack by these criminals, several people were kidnapped in the past one year.
