During his ministerial screening in the Senate on Monday, Keyamo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), made this revelation.

The former Minister of State for Labour and Productivity in the tenure of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari expressed gratitude to Tinubu for deeming him fit to be part of his cabinet.

In his address to the lawmakers, Keyamo expressed, “My presence here today is solely due to the grace of God and the special generosity of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and I wish to extend a heartfelt ‘Thank You’ to him for granting me this unique opportunity to serve.”

He went on to comment, “In fact, I attribute all glory and adoration to God because on Friday, when my name was announced in this chamber, my bags were already packed along with those of my family; we were about to embark on a brief vacation. I had let go of any expectation of being here when suddenly my name was announced.”

However, Keyamo’s screening session concluded amidst a tumultuous atmosphere as legislators were divided regarding his nomination, with some calling for the suspension of the process.

Keyamo was the final nominee from Tinubu’s list of 48 ministerial candidates to appear before the Senate. He faced the red chamber on Monday afternoon, following the screening of another nominee, Mariya Mahmoud, a former Commissioner for Higher Education in Kano State.

Initially, Keyamo, aged 53, was not included in President Tinubu’s initial and subsequent ministerial lists. However, a remarkable turn of events occurred when Tinubu removed Maryam Shetty, a ministerial nominee from Kano, last Friday, substituting her with Keyamo and Mahmood.

Keyamo had previously served as a spokesperson for the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council during the election process that culminated in the formation of the new administration on February 25, 2023.
