BREAKING: FG Files Fresh Charges Against Emefiele, Moves To Withdraw Firearms Case (DETAILS)

During the proceedings, Mohammed Abubakar, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) at the Federal Ministry of Justice, presented an oral application before Justice Nicholas Oweibo. Abubakar explained that the application was prompted by the outcome of further investigations.

However, Joseph Daudu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and legal representative for Emefiele, opposed the application, asserting that the government needed to address its non-compliance with the court’s order granting Emefiele bail before the application could be entertained.

Justice Oweibo has set a date for ruling on the application, which will take place on Thursday, August 17, 2023.

After the day’s proceedings, the DPP spoke to journalists and revealed that a new set of charges, totaling 20 counts, had been filed against the suspended CBN governor at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court. Among these charges, one accuses Emefiele of engaging in “conferring unlawful advantages”.
