‘I Was Shouting I’m Not A Criminal’ – Tailor Shot By ‘DSS Operative’ Narrates Ordeal

Following the shooting incident at Garki Market involving alleged Department of State Services (DSS) operatives, an Abuja-based tailor, Mubarak Usman, has provided a detailed account of the events leading up to the shooting.

In an exclusive interview with Channels Television, Usman revealed that on August 23, a woman who had engaged his tailoring services reported him to a DSS operative.

The woman visited his shop to inquire about six pieces of fabric she had entrusted to him, along with a sample belonging to her mother-in-law.

Usman explained that he had completed work on two of the garments and had started on two others. However, he admitted to not having worked on the last two pieces and informed the customer that the sample was missing. The DSS operative subsequently advised him to locate the missing item and finish the others for collection upon his return.

When the officer returned, Usman had completed three of the garments and handed them over. However, he sought to confirm if the woman had indeed sent the DSS operative, leading to a disagreement. The DSS operative promised to return on another day.

Concerned, Usman reported the incident to the nearest police station and was cautioned not to follow the supposed DSS operative if he came to arrest him. He was given a contact number to call in such a scenario.

On a subsequent encounter, three armed DSS officers approached Usman, stating that he was under arrest. In a bid to call the police officer who had given him the contact, Usman fled but was shot in the process. He fell and sustained injuries, with blood pouring from his leg.

Usman managed to call for help, and a crowd gathered, preventing the DSS from taking him away. Eventually, the police arrived and intervened, insisting that Usman would not be taken. The DSS officers eventually left the scene.

In response to the incident, the DSS has launched an investigation, assuring the public that appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken if any staff members are found to be at fault or in violation of standard operating procedures.
