PROFILE Of Two Nigerian-Americans Biden Appointed As Advisers

U.S. President Joe Biden has named two Nigerian-Americans, Osagie Imasogie and Chiney Ogwumike, as advisers among the 12 members of the President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement in the United States.

Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, praised their appointments, stating that their recognition and inclusion in the advisory council serves as a source of motivation for Nigerians and Africans as a whole.

Chiney Ogwumike, a two-time WNBA All-Star for the Los Angeles Sparks, is also a full-time ESPN commentator and NBA analyst. She holds the distinction of being one of the few professional athletes with a concurrent full-time role in national sports media broadcasting. With a degree in International Relations from Stanford University, Ogwumike made history in August 2020 as the first Black woman to host a national daily sports-talk radio show. Additionally, she produced an ESPN Films documentary titled “144” on the 2020 WNBA season.

Osagie Imasogie serves as the Chairman of Quoin Capital, an SEC/FINRA registered Broker-Dealer and Investment Bank. He is a co-founder of PIPV Capital, a private equity firm specializing in the life sciences sector, with investments exceeding $1 billion. Imasogie has held senior roles in pharmaceutical companies like GlaxoSmithKline and SmithKline Beecham, and he previously established GlaxoSmithKline Ventures. He is a seasoned entrepreneur and investor, and he holds various positions on the boards of major financial institutions, including FS-KKR Capital Corp and Haverford Trust. Furthermore, Imasogie is actively involved in the cultural and educational community, serving on the Executive Committee of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Kimmel Center. He is also a Trustee of the University of Pennsylvania and serves as Chairman of the Board of the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, where he is an Adjunct Professor of Intellectual Property.

Imasogie holds LLM degrees from the London School of Economics and the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, and he is a member of the New York State Bar, with admission to practice in multiple jurisdictions.
