BREAKING: Tragic News As Heavy Rainfall Kills Yakubu In Abuja (DETAILS)

During a substantial downpour on Friday evening, a 31-year-old motorcyclist named Yakubu Lucky lost his life in Dogon Gada, situated in the Lokogoma District of the FCT, Abuja.

The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, stating that the deceased ignored warnings, drove into a waterlogged area, and tragically drowned.

The statement, signed by FEMA’s Head of Public Affairs, Mrs. Nkechi Isa, noted that the deceased disregarded advice from the local divers stationed in the area by FEMA. Additionally, he maneuvered around the barricade set up by the agency to prevent residents from traversing the flooded area.

FEMA’s Search and Rescue Team, led by Mrs. Florence Wenegieme, the Director of Forecasting Response and Mitigation, successfully recovered the deceased’s body on Saturday. The body was then taken to the Asokoro District Hospital, where a doctor officially confirmed the unfortunate event.

“The family of the deceased who hailed from Zango Kataf, Kaduna State, has since taken his body away for burial,” the statement further disclosed.

Responding to the incident, the acting Director-General of FEMA, Mr. Mohammed Sabo, urged residents to consistently heed the warnings issued by the agency. Sabo emphasized that FEMA consistently places barriers at Dogon Gada during heavy downpours. He advised residents not to venture into waterlogged areas but instead wait for the water to subside or seek an alternative route.

Sabo extended his condolences to the deceased’s family and encouraged residents to utilize the 112 emergency toll-free number in case of a disaster or emergency.
