In a late Wednesday statement, Kissinger Associates announced the death of Dr. Henry Kissinger, describing him as a respected American scholar and statesman who died at his Connecticut residence.

The statement revealed that a private funeral would be held for Kissinger, with a memorial service scheduled for a later date in New York, where he spent much of his life after his Jewish family fled Nazi Germany.

The cause of death was not disclosed. Despite reaching the centenarian milestone, Kissinger remained active, even traveling to China in July to meet with President Xi Jinping.

While Kissinger received the Nobel Peace Prize for his negotiations to end the Vietnam War, he remained a divisive figure due to his realpolitik philosophy—advocating that nations pursue their interests through power. Declassified documents revealed his involvement in controversial events, such as undermining Chile’s elected president Salvador Allende and supporting General Augusto Pinochet’s coup in 1973.

Henry Kissinger is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Nancy, two children from a previous marriage, and five grandchildren, according to his consulting firm.
