What Customs CG Did To 357 Junior Officers
The approval for the promotion of 357 junior officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has been granted by the Comptroller General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
As outlined in a press release by the National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, the promotion decisions were formalized during the 7th Management meeting of 2023, presided over by the Customs CG on December 1st, 2023.
Maiwada explained that the promotion list encompasses General Duty and Support Staff personnel of the service who demonstrated exceptional performance in the 2023 promotion exercise.

The breakdown of the promoted officers, according to Maiwada, includes 246 Assistant Inspectors of Customs (AIC) to Inspectors of Customs (IC), 37 AIC to IC, 39 Customs Assistant I (CAI) to AIC, 27 CAI to AIC, seven Customs Assistant II (CAII) to CAI, and one CAIII to CAII.
The statement reads; “the Management of the Nigeria Customs Service has approved the promotion of 357 Men of the service from the ranks of Customs Assistant I (CAI) to Inspector of Customs (IC). This significant decision was ratified during the 7th Management meeting of 2023, chaired by the Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adeniyi MFR, on December 1, 2023.
“The comprehensive promotion list encompasses both the General Duty (GD) and Support Staff (SS) personnel who excelled in the 2023 promotion exercise. The breakdown of promoted officers is as follows: AIC to IC (246) GD,
AIC to IC (37) SS, CAI to AIC (39) GD, CAI to AIC (27) SS, CAII to CAI (7) SS, CAIII to CAII (1) GD.
“This strategic advancement mirrors the visionary leadership of the Comptroller-General, emphasising motivation, recognising excellence, and rewarding diligence within the service.”
The Customs CG, however, urged the newly promoted officers to justify the promotion through revenue generation, smuggling and trade facilitation.
“In extending his heartfelt congratulations, the Comptroller-General urges the newly promoted Men to redouble their efforts in fulfilling the service service’s core mandates of Revenue Generation, Suppression of Smuggling, and Trade Facilitation,” Maiwada stated.
