The committee’s primary objective is to assess whether these private institutions comply with the stipulated standards, encompassing the availability of prescribed facilities, a sound management structure, and adequate funding for their programs.

This initiative comes amid escalating concerns about the quality and credibility of education provided by some of these institutions, following an investigative report exposing a fake certificate syndicate from Benin Republic and Togo being utilized by certain Nigerians. Approximately 107 private universities established in the last 15 years are anticipated to undergo scrutiny by the Federal Government’s investigative panel.

The listed private universities subject to the investigation include Adeleke University (Osun State), Baze University (FCT Abuja), Landmark University (Kwara State), Glorious Vision University (formerly Samuel Adegboyega University, Edo State), McPherson University (Ogun State), Elizade University (Ondo State), and many others.

The committee aims to ensure that these private institutions maintain the necessary standards, fostering transparency and accountability within the education sector.
