Security Concerns at the Forefront

The alarming rise in security challenges, from kidnapping to banditry, demands urgent legislative attention. Notably, even the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has witnessed distressing incidents. With the Plateau crisis and other security issues persisting, expectations are high that the House will take bold legislative steps to address these concerns.

Constitutional Amendments in the Spotlight

The need for comprehensive amendments to the 1999 Constitution takes center stage. Previous efforts, spanning alterations from 2003 to 2023, are deemed insufficient. Calls for amendments to address perceived defects and incorporate critical changes, including state and community-led police structures, justice sector reforms, fiscal federalism, and increased devolution of power, have intensified. The House, under the leadership of Benjamin Kalu, is poised to navigate the complexities of constitutional reform.
