Chanting slogans like “Everything is expensive, especially flour and grains, Tinubu come to our aid,” the women expressed their struggles in providing for their families, with many highlighting the hardships faced by widows and the looming threat of hunger.

Hajiya Fatima Auwal, the leader of the protesting group, addressed journalists after the demonstration, shedding light on the dire situation faced by their small-scale businesses in the wake of rising inflation, calling for urgent intervention.

“We are out here on the streets protesting to let the leaders know the deteriorating situation in which we are at the moment. This is how our small-scale business is facing deterioration due to the rise in the price of flour,” she explained.

The Gurasa producers, mostly women, emphasized the significant impact on their ability to feed their families and send their children to school, with many already forced to close down due to a lack of capital.

Auwal lamented the stark increase in the price of flour, stating, “We used to buy flour at the rate of N16,000 in the past but now it sells for N43,000. This is absurd. What we produce is a common food for the poor and is now becoming unaffordable.”

The protest leader urged authorities to address the matter promptly, emphasizing that if no action is taken, many businesses will be forced to shut down, exacerbating the challenges faced by the general public. The women’s plea for assistance from leaders, notably mentioning Tinubu, echoes the collective cry for economic relief in the face of mounting hardships.
