Ruto’s sentiments were echoed by the National Environment Authority (NEMA).

“In the preliminary investigations, it has been discovered that four NEMA officers irregularly processed the license and are, therefore, implicated,” stated NEMA Board Chairman Emilio Mugo in a release on Saturday.

“The board consequently instructs the involved officers to step aside immediately, pending further inquiry by the relevant government agencies,” he added.

A truck carrying gas canisters exploded shortly before midnight on Thursday in Embakasi, a densely populated district in Nairobi, causing extensive damage and prompting residents to flee for safety.
