Edo 2024: APC Shortlists Four Governorship Aspirants From Initial 29

In a strategic move ahead of the Edo State governorship primary election on February 17, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has trimmed down the list of governorship aspirants from twenty-nine to four prominent contenders. Notable figures among the finalists include Lucky Imasuen, a former deputy governor of Edo State; Dennis Idahosa, a representative of Ovia constituency in the House of Representatives; Col. David Imuse (rtd.), the immediate past chairman of Edo APC; and Senator Monday Okpekholo, representing Edo Central Senatorial District.

This selection process has strategically positioned two candidates from the Edo South senatorial district and two from the Edo Central senatorial district, setting the stage for a competitive primary leading up to the state governorship election.

APC’s state publicity secretary, Peter Uwadia-Igbinigie, announced the final shortlist, emphasizing that the advisory committee, led by Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, had aimed to encourage aspirants to consider reducing their numbers. He assured all aspirants who had purchased the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms of a fair and transparent process, urging them to prepare for the screening committee sessions scheduled by the National Working Committee (NWC) of APC on February 8 and 9, 2024.

Uwadiae-Igbinigie underscored the commitment to transparency and equity in the selection of the APC governorship candidate, dismissing any misconceptions surrounding the advisory committee’s purpose and emphasizing adherence to established procedures. The move signals the party’s dedication to a level-playing ground for all aspirants in navigating internal procedures.
