The pastor is accused of orchestrating a massive fraud scheme, defrauding church members and unsuspecting Nigerians under the guise of fake grants from the prestigious Ford Foundation, amounting to a staggering N1.3 billion.

According to the EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, Ebonyi stands accused of duping victims, including non-governmental organizations and individuals, by promoting a counterfeit $20 billion intervention project through his Theobarth Global Foundation.

The alleged scam involved luring victims to believe that grants were being offered by the United States’ Ford Foundation for the benefit of less privileged individuals.

The statement revealed that the suspect deceived victims into subscribing as beneficiaries of the purported grant, requiring them to pay for registration forms and clusters. Each unsuspecting subscriber ended up contributing N1.8 million, resulting in a windfall of N1.3 billion for Ebonyi.

Investigations by the EFCC unveiled that there was no authentic arrangement, grant, relationship, or business between Ebonyi and the Ford Foundation. The foundation explicitly disowned both the pastor and his NGO, emphasizing that there was no connection whatsoever.

As investigations continue, the EFCC announced that the suspect would face arraignment once the probe reaches its conclusion. The shocking revelation highlights the lengths to which some individuals go to exploit trust and deceive unsuspecting victims for personal gain.
