The announcement, made by Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, comes as part of a comprehensive strategy to alleviate the burden of rising commodity prices and ensure food security nationwide.

The release includes a diverse range of essential commodities such as maize, millet, garlic, and more, sourced from both the National Food Reserve and the Rice Millers Association of Nigeria. With 42,000 metric tonnes set for immediate distribution and an additional 60,000 metric tonnes of rice guaranteed by local producers, the initiative aims to sustain the nation’s needs for the next one to two months.

While addressing potential shortages, the administration remains prepared to explore import options as a short-term solution, underscoring its commitment to meeting the nation’s food demands without compromise.

As the government takes decisive action to address the crisis, it sends a clear message to food hoarders: punitive measures await those who exploit the situation for personal gain. With Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria is poised to navigate through the challenges ahead, transforming into an import-export hub and securing a brighter future for all citizens.
