The Super Eagles of Nigeria were defeated 2-1 by the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire in an exhilarating match on Sunday night.
In a series of posts on his official X handle on Sunday night, Obi commended the Super Eagles for their commendable effort, energy, stamina, and tactical prowess, despite losing the trophy to Cote d’Ivoire.
The LP flagbearer also extended his congratulations to the team for their outstanding display of talent and football skills that propelled them to a commendable position in the tournament.
The former Governor of Anambra State emphasized that the outcome of the game does not diminish Nigeria’s status as a home of talents, as exemplified by the national team.
He wrote: “As we conclude the AFCON tournament with our final match against our dear African brothers, Cote d’Ivoire, today, I commend our national team, the Super Eagles, for their exceptional effort, energy, stamina, and tactical display. Although Cote d’Ivoire emerged victorious and claimed the cup, our national team put up a formidable fight.
“I congratulate our national team and every Nigerian for our remarkable exhibition of talent and football skills that propelled us far in the tournament.
“The eventual outcome of the game does not diminish Nigeria’s status as a home of talents, as exemplified by our national team. Once again, our players exhibited the resilient spirit of the Nigerian people, showcasing professionalism, dedication, and a drive for success.
“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Nigeria Football Federation, the Super Eagles Coach, the management, technical and medical crew, and all those who contributed tirelessly to our journey in the tournament. Their efforts were not in vain.
“Today, as a nation, we reignited the flame of unity as we stood united to support our national team. In our journey towards the New Nigeria we aspire to, let us remain united and collectively build our nation.
“I also pay tribute to Nigerians who tragically lost their lives while supporting the Super Eagles during the semifinal match against Bafana Bafana of South Africa. May God grant them eternal rest and comfort their families.
“Congratulations to the AFCON Champions, Cote d’Ivoire. They fought bravely and emerged victorious. I salute them and wish them and their nation the very best as we all strive to build the New Africa we desire.”
