INEC Declares Deadline For Edo Guber Nomination Forms Submission

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set a crucial deadline for the submission of nomination forms in the upcoming governorship election in Edo State, providing clarity on the electoral process.

According to a statement by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the INEC Information and Voter Education Committee, political parties must submit their nomination forms by Sunday, March 24th, 2024.

Olumekun emphasized that the deadline marks the culmination of the process initiated by the expiration of the deadline for party primaries on February 24th, 2024.

He elaborated further, stating that political parties have a 20-day window, commencing from Monday, March 4th, 2024, to upload the Personal Particulars (Form EC9) and Names/List of Nominated candidates (Form EC9B) of their candidates via the dedicated online portal.

Access codes for the portal will be available for collection by the National Chairmen of political parties, with training sessions scheduled from March 1st to March 4th, 2024, at the Media Centre in the INEC Headquarters in Abuja.

Moreover, the Media Centre will function as a Help Desk during the nomination period to provide assistance to any political party in need.

Notably, Olumekun stressed that the allotted 20 days are sufficient for political parties to upload nomination forms for only two candidates per party, comprising the gubernatorial candidate and the running mate. Consequently, there will be no extensions beyond the stipulated deadline of March 24th, 2024.
