ICPC Grills High-Ranking Officials Over Alleged $3.4 Billion IMF Loan Disappearance
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) intensifies its investigation into the purported disappearance of a staggering $3.4 billion IMF loan, summoning top officials from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF).
In a dramatic turn of events, the anti-graft agency has also called upon officials from the Federal Ministry of Finance to provide critical insights into the whereabouts of the controversial loan, which was intended to bolster Nigeria’s budget and combat the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This development follows a lawsuit filed by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), challenging the government’s failure to probe the alarming disappearance of the funds, in accordance with constitutional and international obligations.
Revelations from a reliable source indicate that the ICPC has embarked on a meticulous examination of pertinent documents retrieved from key financial institutions, shedding light on the intricate web of transactions surrounding the elusive loan.
As the investigation unfolds, questions loom large over the utilization of the funds and the accountability of the implicated parties, underscoring the urgent need for transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s financial management systems. With the probe gaining momentum, the nation awaits eagerly for answers regarding the fate of the missing billions and the accountability of those entrusted with safeguarding Nigeria’s financial integrity.
