Fani-Kayode Slams Igbos: Calls Support For Israel ‘Totally Unacceptable
In a scathing critique, former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has condemned the stance of certain Igbo individuals who openly endorse the actions of the State of Israel, particularly regarding the Gaza conflict, labeling it as “totally unacceptable.”
Expressing his dismay, Fani-Kayode highlighted what he perceived as a paradoxical situation, wherein a significant number of Igbo people, who endured immense suffering and persecution during the Nigerian Civil War of 1967-1970, now extend support to Israel despite its controversial actions in Gaza.
Taking to his official X platform on Monday, the former minister voiced his discontent, denouncing the phenomenon where some Igbos associate themselves with Judaism and embrace the Jewish faith, drawing parallels between their own historical struggles and the plight of Palestinians in Gaza.
“It is an irony of fate that the overwhelming majority of the very same Igbo people who were slaughtered in their millions between 1967 and 1970 and who were subjected to the worst form of ethnic cleansing that Africa has ever seen are now openly applauding the State of Israel for committing genocide against the women and children of Gaza,” remarked Fani-Kayode.
He expressed strong disapproval towards those within the Igbo community who identify as “Jews of Africa” or align themselves with Zionist ideologies, viewing such sentiments as misguided and regrettable.
“This is totally and completely unacceptable and it is most unfortunate,” Fani-Kayode’s statement concluded, underscoring his firm stance against the perceived support for Israel among certain segments of the Igbo population.
