This call to action was issued by the union’s National Chairman, Wilfred Onu, during a press conference held at the Scripture Union’s headquarters in Samonda, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

Accompanied by the union’s General Director, Uwem Udoh, Onu expressed the group’s concerns regarding the potential legal recognition of lesbianism and bisexuality, highlighting the significant repercussions for the global community.

“We are deeply concerned about the apparent acceptance of these unscriptural ideas, which contradict clear admonitions in the Holy Bible, and disregard the legal implications outlined in the Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act, 2014, and other statutes that criminalize such behavior in various states of Nigeria,” Onu stated.

He emphasized the alarming promotion of this ideology by some religious and political leaders, particularly in the Western world, calling for action to prevent the erosion of human and societal decency, values, and public morality.

Affirming the union’s commitment to promoting traditional Christian values and principles, Onu declared the LGBTQ+ ideology as unbiblical, immoral, and rooted in falsehood.

The Scripture Union called upon the entire Christian community to uphold and advocate for God’s love and redemption for all individuals while firmly rejecting LGBTQ+ ideology that contradicts biblical teachings.

The union urged Christians and true lovers of humanity to defend the sanctity of family life and society against harmful agendas promoted by individuals, organizations, and agencies.

Furthermore, as a union mandated by God to serve children, youths, and families, Scripture Union expressed its commitment to safeguarding innocence from harmful influences that deviate from biblical teachings. They advocated for the preservation of traditional family values and marriage as defined in the Scriptures.
