Belgorod governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported on Telegram that drone and air attacks hit two districts in his region and the regional capital, also named Belgorod. He described the situation as challenging, mentioning casualties and damages resulting from the attacks.

Gladkov stated that an air attack by Ukrainian armed forces on Belgorod caused the collapse of three balconies in an apartment building, resulting in the death of a married man. Additionally, another person was killed in a drone attack on districts outside the city.

In the Samara region, located 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) away from the eastern front lines, the local governor Dmitry Azarov reported several drone attacks on local oil refineries. One of these attacks led to a fire at the Kuibyshev refinery, operated by Russian oil giant Rosneft. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported.

Azarov also mentioned that another refinery in the region, Novokuibyshevsk, successfully repelled a drone attack without damaging its technological equipment.

These attacks occurred within 24 hours of Russia launching one of its largest aerial barrages in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. The barrage targeted dozens of Ukrainian energy sites, leaving over a million people temporarily without power.

Both Ukraine and Russia have been actively engaged in drone warfare, with Ukraine claiming to have downed a significant number of Russian drones aimed at its territory, while Russia has intercepted Ukrainian drones. The conflict has seen heightened tensions in recent weeks, with both sides targeting each other’s energy sectors and major cities
