The Kaduna State Government, in a statement released on Sunday morning, confirmed the release of the 137 schoolchildren who were kidnapped on March 7 by gunmen on motorcycles, sparking widespread outrage and condemnation globally.
Governor Sani, in a post alongside a video shared on his official platform on Sunday night, expressed his happiness at meeting the released schoolchildren after their traumatic ordeal.
The governor reported that the freed students appeared to be in high spirits during his visit, assuring that they would receive continued psychosocial counseling and proper medical care until they are reunited with their families.
Sani announced plans to formally receive the children on Monday afternoon, followed by a dinner reception at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna.
He wrote: “I am glad to see our released Kuriga children in high spirits on Sunday evening when I visited them. They will be formally handed over to me on Monday afternoon after which they will be hosted to dinner at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna.
“They will continue to undergo psychosocial counselling and proper medical supervision in the meantime.
