Tinubu Appoints New Coordinator For National Counter-Terrorism Centre

The announcement was made in a statement on Tuesday by presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, noting that the centre operates under the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

Major-General Laka brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served in various capacities in the North-East of Nigeria, where he implemented tactical strategies to combat terrorist groups. Additionally, he has served in Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo under the United Nations, and participated in the US AFRICOM exercise in Senegal as part of the Nigerian contingent.

The statement highlighted Major-General Laka’s academic credentials, including Master’s Degrees in National Security from the National Defence University, Pakistan, and in International Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Major-General Laka’s extensive experience will enable him to effectively address security threats through preemptive, proactive, and diligent counter-terrorism coordination.
