Soldiers Allegedly Kill Magdalene, James, John, And Others in Delta State – Vero Joseph Reports

Vero Joseph, a resident of Okuama community in Delta State, has accused Nigerian army personnel of killing several individuals during their incursion into the community. The incident comes in the wake of previous clashes involving Nigerian Army personnel in Delta State.

Recalling the events, Joseph stated, “I am currently hiding in this bush because of the unrest in our community. On the day of the incident, I was on the farm nearby when we heard that soldiers were approaching. I rushed home to the town hall where the soldiers were entertained.”

“However, tensions escalated when the soldiers attempted to take away our chairman and other leaders. In desperation, we, the women, knelt and pleaded with them, but they insisted. As they tried to drag them away, chaos erupted, and the soldiers began shooting. People fell, and there was pandemonium,” she continued.

“Subsequently, we learned that as the soldiers proceeded to the jetty, more boats arrived and indiscriminately opened fire on everyone, resulting in casualties among both soldiers and civilians. Since March 14, we have been enduring immense hardship in this bush,” Joseph lamented.

Describing the dire situation they face, she added, “We lack food, medicine, and proper clothing. My family is separated, and I do not know the fate of my husband and other children. Our businesses have collapsed, and we are helpless in this bush. We appeal to the governor to intervene and urge the soldiers to leave our community so we can return home.”

Joseph vehemently denied any involvement of the community in violence against soldiers and pleaded for an end to their suffering.
