BREAKING: MultiChoice Increases DStv, GOtv Monthly Subscription
In response to the ongoing economic challenges, MultiChoice Nigeria has announced another round of price increases for its DStv and GOtv monthly bouquet subscriptions. The adjustments, effective May 1, 2024, signify a further burden on subscribers already grappling with financial strains…..READ ALSO Prices Slashed As MultiChoice Introduce Festive Season Offers For GOtv Customers (WHAT TO KNOW)
The highest bouquet on DStv, Compact Plus, will witness a surge from ₦29,500 to ₦37,000, while the top-tier package on GOtv, Supa Plus, will also experience a hike from ₦12,500 to ₦15,700. These revisions mark yet another escalation in subscription costs, adding to the financial woes of consumers.
Sources within MultiChoice, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the impending price adjustments to Naija News. This decision follows a series of earlier increments, with the last one occurring in November 2023, reflecting a trend of frequent adjustments by the company.
The timing of this latest increase coincides with a period of intensified economic strain. Since President Bola Tinubu’s removal of fuel subsidy, fuel prices have skyrocketed from around ₦189 per liter to over ₦600, exacerbating the cost of transportation and cascading into higher prices for essential goods nationwide.
Moreover, the recent decision to float the country’s currency has further weakened its value in the FX market, contributing to soaring inflation and escalating living expenses for Nigerians. Consequently, the latest hike in subscription fees adds to the financial burden faced by households already struggling to make ends meet.
As consumers grapple with the impact of these successive price hikes, the affordability of essential services like cable TV subscriptions becomes increasingly challenging. The announcement underscores the urgent need for measures to mitigate the economic strain on citizens and ensure equitable access to vital services amidst challenging times.
