Rivers Tanker Explosion: Fubara Pledges Support, Vows Compensation For Victims

The explosion, which occurred on a fateful Friday night, wreaked havoc as flames engulfed over 50 vehicles, leaving behind a scene of tragedy with charred remains and vehicles strewn along the road and in nearby drains.

Accompanied by top officials including the Commissioner for Police, Olatunji Disu, and the Commissioner for Energy, Maximus Nwafor, Governor Fubara arrived at the scene to assess the extent of the damage and coordinate relief efforts.

Expressing his dismay at the unfolding tragedy, Governor Fubara highlighted the urgent need for thorough investigations into the incident by security agencies to facilitate assistance to the families of the victims.

The Governor also drew attention to the poor state of the Eleme section of the East-West road, cautioning commuters about the hazards posed by its deteriorating condition.

In his words, “Yesterday around 7-8pm, we got information about a very serious inferno caused by a tanker conveying PMS. It was not a very pleasant sight. We recorded a huge number of vehicles destroyed and lives lost. I have already instructed the security agencies to provide us with a comprehensive report so we can extend support to the bereaved families and mitigate the impact of their losses.”

Governor Fubara’s visit underscores the state government’s commitment to providing relief and assistance to those affected by the tragic incident, while also advocating for urgent measures to address road safety concerns to prevent future calamities.
