Iran Imposes Sanctions On US, UK Figures Over Support For Israel

Iran has imposed sanctions on numerous prominent American and British individuals and entities due to their support for Israel during its recent military operations against the Palestinian group Hamas. Among those targeted by the sanctions are high-ranking military figures, including General Bryan P. Fenton, who commands the US Special Operations Command, and Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, a former commander of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet. Additionally, key British officials such as Secretary of State for Defence Grant Shapps and James Hockenhull, commander of the British Army Strategic Command, have also been sanctioned. Operational units of the UK Royal Navy in the Red Sea are included in the sanctions.

Notably, several prominent corporations have also been affected by the sanctions. American companies like Lockheed Martin and Chevron, as well as British firms such as Elbit Systems, Parker Meggitt, and Rafael UK, are facing restrictive measures.

The Iranian government has specified that these sanctions will involve the blocking of financial transactions and assets within Iran’s jurisdiction. Additionally, visa bans and entry prohibitions will be imposed on the named individuals.

It remains to be seen how effective these sanctions will be, as the extent of financial or operational ties between the sanctioned parties and Iranian entities is unclear.

This development comes amid heightened conflict in the Gaza Strip, which was triggered by a Palestinian militant attack on Israel on October 7, resulting in significant civilian casualties.
