Chinese Nationals Sentenced To Jail For Illegal Mining In Kwara
Today, a Federal High Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, handed down a one-year prison sentence to two Chinese nationals, Duan Ya Hong and Xiao Yi, for engaging in illegal mining activities and possessing solid minerals without the necessary licenses…..read also Court Sentences Three Police Officers To Life Imprisonment For Murder
The duo, along with their company Ebuy Concept Limited, faced charges of illegal mining dating back to February 2024 in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Initially pleading not guilty, the defendants later changed their plea to guilty for one count of the amended 11-count charge. Following a review of evidence, the court found them guilty as charged.
Justice Evelyn Anyadike sentenced Hong to one year in prison with a fine option of N2 million, while Yi received a similar sentence with a fine option of N1 million. The court also ordered the interim forfeiture of the 30 tons of minerals and the truck involved in the illegal activity.
