Woman Arrested For Fatally Stabbing Aunt Amid Dispute Over Electricity Usage

The tragic incident unfolded when Kundai and Matongo, who shared a residence, clashed over managing their electricity expenses. Kundai, citing financial constraints, refused to contribute to the bill. Matongo, empathizing with her niece’s situation, paid US$5 to restore their electricity but stipulated that it should only be used for lighting, not cooking.

Disregarding her aunt’s instructions, Kundai utilized the electricity for cooking, sparking a heated argument. The confrontation quickly turned violent, culminating in Kundai stabbing Matongo three times in the chest.

Matongo’s family asserts that the fatal outcome could have been prevented if the authorities had taken earlier reports of escalating tensions seriously.

Prime, Matongo’s daughter, lamented, “Despite the family’s efforts to seek assistance from the authorities, our pleas fell on deaf ears.” She recounted informing the police about the growing rift between her mother and Kundai, but they allegedly failed to act. Shockingly, she claimed that they advised her to report the incident only after her mother had been attacked.

Prime herself sustained injuries during the altercation when she attempted to intervene and was struck in the stomach by a toilet seat.

Kundai is currently in police custody, facing charges of murder, and is expected to appear in court soon.
