Governor Godwin Obaseki has announced that the 6,000-capacity Edo Arena will be named “Rema’s Dome” in honour of the renowned afrobeats artist Rema.
The governor made the announcement during the groundbreaking ceremony of the project in Benin City, which was attended by Rema.
“It was a pleasure to have our global music icon @heisrema, join me in performing the groundbreaking ceremony for the 6,000-capacity Edo Arena. The arena, which will be called ‘Rema’s Dome,’ is located at the former Garrick Memorial School Ground on Ekehuan Road in Benin City,” Governor Obaseki said in a statement via X shortly after the ceremony.
Rema, who hails from Benin City, has been a proud ambassador of Edo State, showcasing its rich culture and legacy in his music.
The governor highlighted that the arena, scheduled for completion soon, will host various events, including concerts, conferences, and symposiums, attracting visitors and creating employment opportunities for youths.
The naming of the arena after Rema recognises his contributions to promoting Edo State and its cultural heritage globally.
