Youth Engagement: Speaker Abbas To Lead Legislative Mentorship On Wednesday

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Tajudeen Abbas, will engage with a group of Nigerian youths currently participating in the legislative mentorship initiative on Wednesday, 4th September 2024.

It is worth recalling that the Speaker, on 31st July, similarly met with a broad segment of Nigerian youths at a town hall meeting to discuss issues related to good governance.

Abbas, who represents Zaria Federal Constituency, Kaduna State, among other things, pledged to convene a summit twice a year to exchange ideas with young Nigerians on ways to move the country forward.

Consequently, Abbas will hold a session with the participants at the National Assembly Complex on Wednesday, titled ‘An Afternoon with the Speaker.’

A statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, noted that “In addition to sharing his life experiences and leadership tips with the fellows, the Speaker is expected to highlight initiatives by the 10th House to support youth leadership and encourage their participation in politics, among others.”

The Legislative Mentorship Initiative was founded in 2022 by the Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, who is now the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.

The programme is designed to equip and empower dynamic young leaders interested in public sector leadership. It aims to provide them with hands-on training and engagement in governance and public service through collaborative and inclusive leadership.

The mission is to develop the next generation of legislators and ethical public sector leaders, who are well-equipped with responsive leadership skills, knowledge, and expertise to enhance public service delivery and foster national cohesion.
