EFCC Chairman Urges BPE Chief to Uphold Integrity and Transparency for National Growth
Ayodeji Gbeleyi, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), emphasized the crucial need for integrity, accountability, and transparency in public service. The meeting, held in Abuja, highlighted the importance of these principles for fostering trust and driving economic progress.
In a statement released by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, Olukoyede stressed that public office is inherently a position of trust. He urged Gbeleyi to align his leadership with the high expectations placed on public servants. “Public office demands a high level of integrity and transparency,” Olukoyede asserted. “The mandate you have is pivotal in stimulating the economy, and it is crucial that we meet the expectations placed upon us.”
Olukoyede advised Gbeleyi to review the Bureau’s activities thoroughly to identify and correct any issues. He assured Gbeleyi of the EFCC’s readiness to collaborate and provide necessary support to ensure the BPE’s effective operation. “We are here to support you,” he said. “In return, we will need your cooperation in providing information for our investigations. Our joint efforts are crucial for the nation’s interest.”
Gbeleyi took the opportunity to outline the BPE’s plans for enhancing efficiency and transparency. He revealed that the Bureau is undergoing a significant overhaul to eliminate corruption risks in its processes. “We are revamping our procedures to ensure our transactions are corruption-proof,” Gbeleyi said. “This will help us contribute effectively to the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and support the anti-corruption drive, as well as aim towards achieving a $1 trillion GDP economy.”
The meeting underscored the importance of ongoing collaboration between the EFCC and the BPE. Gbeleyi expressed his commitment to expanding this partnership to enhance the effectiveness of both agencies.
