According to a statement from Garba Mohammed, Director of Press Affairs at the Deputy Governor’s Office, the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N50 million, which was later reduced to N10 million.

Malam Umar Dankoli, one of the rescued victims, recounted how his eldest son managed to raise just one million naira after several days, only to find himself also taken captive by the bandits in Malafana Bush. The bandits continued to demand a N10 million ransom for his and the other victims’ release.

Thanks to the swift intervention of the joint security team, the hostages were finally rescued during a well-executed raid on the bandits’ camp.

Colonel Abdulhamid Usman (rtd), Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, praised Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for his unwavering support to security agencies, which has led to recent successes in combating banditry in the state.
