Election Shocker Aiyedatiwa Tears Into PDP For Backing Out Of Ondo Polls

The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has described the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) withdrawal from the local government elections as an act of cowardice. Speaking to journalists on Saturday after casting his vote at Polling Unit 5, Ugbo Ward 4, Ilaje Local Government Area, Aiyedatiwa expressed disapproval of the PDP’s decision, attributing it to a possible fear of losing.

“For PDP to pull out, that is cowardice. They participated in the entire process. ODIEC (Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission) released the timetable for the election on time. I don’t understand their reasons for withdrawal. Maybe it’s fear of losing. Every election has its logistics, and other political parties are participating. Whatever the reason for their withdrawal, I am not privy to it,” he remarked.

Significance of the Election

Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized the importance of the polls, describing them as a pivotal step toward enhancing grassroots governance and development. He reiterated his administration’s dedication to supporting a robust local government system in line with the law.

“The local government is central to grassroots development. This election demonstrates our commitment to improving governance at this level,” he stated.

He also commended ODIEC for its smooth conduct of the elections.

“I cast my vote without any crisis. Just as the November 16 governorship election was deemed free and fair, today’s election mirrors that process. Materials arrived promptly, security is in place, and the citizens are actively participating. We anticipate similar success,” the governor added.

Deputy Governor’s Remarks

Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami voted earlier at 9:45 a.m. at Igbooroko Unit 16, Ward 3, Owo Local Government Area. He commended voters for their turnout and encouraged them to support the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The turnout is impressive. I urge all eligible voters to cast their votes and back the APC for continued progress in our state,” Adelami said.

PDP Withdrawal

The PDP announced its withdrawal from the elections on Thursday, citing a lack of confidence in ODIEC. Leye Igbagbo, the party’s Director of Media and Publicity in Ondo State, made the announcement.
