During a courtesy visit by the Female Journalists Network to his Abuja office, Olawande highlighted the critical role of media professionals in combating disinformation.

“Fake news poses a significant threat to our democracy. Without urgent action, it could undermine the strides we’ve made over the years,” he stated in a press release by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Omolara Esan.

The Minister called for a concerted effort to reorient media practitioners, encouraging them to uphold ethical standards and detach emotions from their work.

Representing the Female Journalists Network, Mr. Daniel Black outlined the group’s dedication to social development. He noted their plans to participate in the 63rd Commission for Social Development, slated for February 10–14, to amplify Nigerian civil society voices in global dialogues.

Black also called on government agencies to collaborate with civil organizations to address pressing social issues, including poverty and women’s inclusion.

The Ministry’s Director of Social Mobilization, Hajia Amina Dauran, commended the Female Journalists Network for their proactive efforts, expressing readiness to partner with the group in driving impactful initiatives.

This appeal underscores the growing need for a united front against fake news, fostering ethical journalism for the nation’s democratic stability and development.
