Eyewitnesses report that the truck suffered a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle collided with several structures before crashing into the house, leading to multiple casualties.

“The accident happened late at night when most residents were at home,” an eyewitness stated. “The loud crash alerted people, who rushed to the scene to help victims trapped under the wreckage.”

Among the deceased were five children from one family, as well as the truck driver. Several others sustained serious injuries, with some still trapped under the debris.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Margaret Onabe, attributed the crash to excessive speed, brake failure, and loss of control. According to her, six people, including male and female adults and three children, lost their lives, while others sustained injuries.

“The FRSC rescue team from Nnewi carried out an extrication operation to recover victims from the collapsed structure. The bodies of the deceased were later transferred to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital,” Onabe added.

Similarly, Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, reiterating that preliminary investigations indicate brake failure as the cause of the accident.

Residents and sympathizers gathered at the scene to console the grieving family, especially the distraught mother who lost her three daughters in the crash.

This tragic incident has raised concerns about road safety and the need for stricter regulations on heavy-duty vehicles in residential areas.
