PDP Opponents Merely Capitalizing On Tinubu’s 2027 Concerns

Dele Momodu, a veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed concerns that certain individuals are working to undermine the PDP by attempting to disqualify Atiku Abubakar from contesting the 2027 presidential election.

In an interview, Momodu commented on General Ibrahim Babangida’s recent remarks about the annulment of the June 12, 1993, election, stating that the reasons behind the decision remain unclear. He believes the military was unwilling to relinquish power and that Abiola’s victory should have been upheld despite potential risks.

Regarding the ongoing crisis within the PDP, Momodu argued that internal conflicts are not unique to the party and accused some members of betraying the platform that once benefited them. He alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is using federal influence to destabilize the PDP in preparation for the 2027 elections, noting that similar tactics were used to suppress opposition voices.

On Atiku Abubakar’s potential candidacy, Momodu emphasized that political ambition is a personal decision, and no one should be disqualified based on sentiment. He also addressed discussions about a possible alliance between PDP, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, suggesting that a strong coalition could challenge the APC.

Momodu criticized the economic policies of the current administration, arguing that Nigerians are struggling under worsening conditions. He stressed that while challenges may require tough measures, the government should prioritize policies that provide immediate relief rather than exacerbating the hardship faced by citizens.
