Dalung Addresses Reports of Former Buhari Ministers Joining SDP to Oppose Tinubu in 2027

Former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, has responded to claims that ten former ministers from Muhammadu Buhari’s administration are defecting to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the 2027 elections. “Since El-Rufai joined the SDP, I have been receiving no fewer than 100 calls daily from both ordinary citizens and notable figures eager to join the party,” he revealed.

Dalung noted that while the reports of former ministers joining the SDP could be part of ongoing political discussions, they highlight the party’s growing influence.

“The claim about 10 former Buhari ministers joining the SDP might be linked to negotiations between the party and other political leaders considering a move,” he stated.

Dalung Reflects on SDP’s Political History

Explaining his decision to join the SDP in 2022, Dalung recalled the party’s role in uniting Nigerians during the early 1990s. He emphasized that the SDP won Nigeria’s fairest election in 1993, which was later annulled.

He argued that while the government has recognized MKO Abiola, it has yet to extend the same acknowledgment to the SDP. Dalung urged the government to apologize, restore the party’s seized assets, and officially declare Abiola as the legitimate winner of the 1993 election.

“If true reconciliation is to be achieved, the government must return what was taken from the SDP, formally recognize Abiola’s victory, and even consider a posthumous inauguration,” he asserted.

Dalung further suggested that Abiola’s name should be included in Nigeria’s list of past presidents, with all entitlements provided to his family as compensation for the injustice done to him.
