The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that three of its officers were killed while seven others remain missing after armed men ambushed its Tactical Teams in Benue State.

The attack, which occurred on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Agu Centre in Katsina-Ala/Ukum Local Government Area, was carried out by suspected armed herdsmen and local militias. The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that six suspects have already been arrested and are providing useful information to investigators.

The Benue State Commissioner of Police, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, is leading the ongoing rescue and manhunt operations aimed at locating the missing officers and apprehending the culprits.

This incident comes just days after a similar ambush in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, where three policemen were killed at a security checkpoint on September 10. The Kogi State Police spokesperson, William Aya, confirmed that loss, while the State Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, ordered the deployment of tactical teams to the affected area.

In his reaction, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, condemned the Benue attack as “cruel, unwarranted, and an affront on the good people of Benue State.” He ordered the deployment of additional tactical assets to the area, stressing that every effort would be made to restore peace and ensure justice.
