Uyo Set For Major Road Overhaul As Eno Directs Immediate Action On Potholes

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has directed the immediate repair of failed portions of inner roads within Uyo and other major towns across the state.

According to Ireporter Online, the directive aims to enhance infrastructure quality and improve ease of movement for residents and visitors. The Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, disclosed that the state government is fully aware of the deteriorating road conditions caused by persistent rainfall and stormwater in recent weeks.

He explained that as the rains subside, rehabilitation efforts would commence in earnest to ensure proper and lasting reconstruction of affected road sections. Umanah added that the Governor had instructed the Ministry of Works to conduct a thorough assessment of potholes within Uyo, in preparation for large-scale maintenance and overlay works.

The Commissioner emphasized that the Umo Eno-led administration, in line with the Infrastructure Development pillar of the ARISE Agenda, remains committed to the upkeep and sustainability of public infrastructure. He also highlighted that, in addition to the ongoing construction of over 964 kilometers of new and inherited roads and bridges across the state, the government is prioritizing the regular maintenance and rehabilitation of existing routes to improve safety, mobility, and the urban outlook.

Umanah further revealed that the desilting of drainages and clearing of blocked water channels are currently underway in several areas of Uyo to reduce flooding and prevent further road deterioration. He appealed to residents and motorists for patience, assuring that the government would continue to act swiftly and responsibly in addressing infrastructural concerns throughout the state.
