Fubara Applauds Massive Progress As Trans-Kalabari Road Nears 75% Completion

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has commended the significant progress made on the ongoing Trans-Kalabari Road project, noting that about 75 percent of the crucial piling work has been completed.

According to Ireporter Online, Governor Fubara made this known on Monday during an on-site inspection of the 12.5-kilometre project, which is designed to link Port Harcourt, the state capital, with several Kalabari communities located across the waterways.

The Governor, accompanied by top government officials, embarked on the inspection trip via a boat ride from the Rumuolumeni jetty in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area through the creeks and rivers along the project route. The Trans-Kalabari Road, awarded to Lubrik Construction Company Limited on May 15, 2024, has an initial completion timeline of 32 months.

Fubara explained that his visit was to personally verify reports from the Ministry of Works on the project’s progress. He praised the contractors for their dedication and commitment, describing the pace of work as “a reflection of excellence and resilience.”

“The first phase of this project extends to Bakana and includes four major river-crossing bridges and nearly five deck-on-pile structures. The terrain is challenging, and the engineering required is highly complex. But I am pleased to confirm that almost 75 percent of the piling job — the most critical phase — has been achieved,” the Governor said.

He further stressed that the Trans-Kalabari Road stands as one of the most technically demanding infrastructure projects in the state due to its marine terrain but reaffirmed his administration’s determination to complete it on schedule.

Fubara highlighted the economic and social importance of the road, describing it as a game-changer that would strengthen connectivity between the Kalabari Kingdom and Port Harcourt, thereby boosting trade and development across riverine communities.

“This is a transformative project that will greatly improve the lives of the Kalabari people once completed. By God’s grace, in six months, when we return for another inspection, we may be driving across the bridge,” he said.

The Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering impactful and life-changing infrastructure across the state, assuring citizens that every project undertaken would contribute meaningfully to sustainable development and improved living standards.

“We have pledged to embark on projects that truly change lives and foster development. The Trans-Kalabari Road is a clear demonstration of that promise,” Fubara added.
