Akwa Ibom Chief Judge Swears In 16 New Notaries Public Under Reformed Law

According to Ireporter Online, the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Justice Ekaete Obot, has officially sworn in sixteen newly appointed Notaries Public in a ceremony held on Friday. The appointments followed recommendations from Justice Obot and were subsequently approved by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

During the ceremony, Justice Obot administered the oath prescribed under the Notaries Public Act 2023 and reminded the appointees of the significant responsibilities of their office. She urged them to uphold professional ethics, ensure transparency in preparing legal documents, and maintain the integrity of all contracts and instruments.

Justice Obot specifically cautioned the notaries against certifying any act, contract, or document linked to fraud or violence, emphasizing that they must perform their duties “uprightly and justly” in accordance with the oath they had taken.

The newly sworn-in notaries include Iniobong Udo Uko Esq, Vivian Ijeoma Uzoma Esq, Benjamin Emmanuel Adams Esq, Emmanuel Amos Umana Esq, Ime Aquaowa Essien Esq, Edieke Paul Jumbo Esq, Isaac Tsado Oshoriame Ephraim Esq, Samuel Akpadiagha Etuk Esq, Ndifreke Peter Udoh Esq, Akan Obotowo Esq, Sembenge Nse Ekanem Esq, Nsima Ndifreke Akpan Esq, Ifueko Ebi Ikinmwin Esq, Rotimi Omoniyi Oniyesan Esq, Ubong Edem Offiong Esq, and Lazarus Daniel Aniezi Esq. One appointee, Marcellinus Marshal Udokang Esq, was absent.

The event, described as more than a routine administrative exercise, represented the state-level implementation of the recently reformed Notaries Public Act 2023. Justice Obot used the occasion to reaffirm the judiciary’s commitment to combating fraud and ensuring the highest standards of integrity in legal documentation across Akwa Ibom State.
