Almost 3,000 Mobile Subscribers Leave Network Following Rebrand
According to recent data from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), approximately 2,725 mobile subscribers left T2 between August and October 2025, following the network’s rebrand from 9mobile. The figures indicate that 1,111 subscribers ported out in August, 724 in September, and 890 in October, while only 61 customers joined the network during the same period, resulting in a net loss of 2,664 users.
The data suggest that the rebranding effort has yet to reverse the trend of customer attrition. In October alone, T2 recorded 890 exits, surpassing Airtel (289), Globacom (193), and MTN (225). Outgoing porting — which allows subscribers to retain their numbers while switching networks — consistently placed T2 at the top of departures throughout 2025. Between January and October, a total of 28,173 subscribers left T2, while only 87 joined the network.
The network’s rebrand to T2 in August 2025 formed part of a strategic plan aimed at market revival, following Lighthouse Telecoms’ acquisition of 9mobile in 2023. The transformation involved leadership restructuring, board reconstitution, and a three-year national roaming agreement with MTN Nigeria, designed to improve coverage and service quality in previously underserved areas.
The Minister for Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, acknowledged the rebrand but emphasized the need for tangible service improvements, urging T2 to focus on innovation and service excellence to meet the expectations of millions of Nigerians.
In addition, MTN Nigeria secured approval from the NCC to lease spectrum from T2 Mobile to strengthen network capacity and manage traffic from T2’s subscribers. Despite these strategic moves, NCC data show that T2 continues to experience the highest rate of subscriber departures in the industry.
