According to Ireporter Online, Sowunmi made the remarks during a recent appearance on a political affairs programme, where he stressed that the PDP’s central problem is the absence of meaningful reform rather than the actions of any single individual.

He argued that the party’s struggles should not be reduced to accusations against one person, noting that such an approach oversimplifies deeper structural issues. Sowunmi maintained that strong institutions and clear processes prevent excesses, explaining that established systems in advanced democracies do not permit the kind of internal disorder currently associated with the party.

The PDP stalwart further observed that, as a party with over two decades of existence and significant experience in governance, the PDP ought to have developed solid institutional memory capable of addressing recurring challenges. He added that the party’s years in opposition should have been used as an opportunity to rebuild, reform, and reposition itself for future electoral contests.

Sowunmi, however, acknowledged that those currently engaged in internal disputes across various factions remain individuals who have shown longstanding commitment to the party, expressing hope that collective reform efforts could restore unity and strength within the PDP.
