Former Kano State Governor and Senator, Ibrahim Shekarau, has officially resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the move as part of a broader political realignment.

According to Ireporter Online, Shekarau’s resignation was contained in a letter dated April 19, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Giginyu Ward in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State. He stated that his exit from the party takes immediate effect.

In the letter, he wrote: “Accept this letter please as notice of my resignation from my position as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with effect from today.”

The resignation letter was also copied to the Kano State PDP Chairman and the PDP Chairman of Nassarawa Local Government Area, signaling formal communication across relevant party structures.

Reports from Daily Post indicate that Shekarau attributed his decision to wide consultations within his political camp, suggesting plans to align with a different political platform ahead of future political engagements.
