Tobi Amusan Places Third As Russell Races To Victory At The Shanghai Diamond League

The Nigerian sprint hurdler delivered a season’s best time of 12.41 seconds in a highly competitive field, just days after securing gold at the African Senior Athletics Championships in Ghana. Her performance marked a significant improvement from the 12.84 seconds she posted during her victorious outing in Accra earlier in the week.

Olympic champion Masai Russell dominated the race in emphatic fashion, setting a new meeting record and world-leading time of 12.25 seconds. Devynne Charlton followed closely in second place with an impressive 12.38 seconds, one of the strongest outdoor performances of her career.

Amusan, whose world record of 12.12 seconds remains the fastest ever run in the event, held her own against a field packed with elite athletes from across the globe. The lineup featured reigning world champion Ditaji Kambundji, Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds and Ackera Nugent, China’s Wu Yanni, and American competitors Tonea Marshall and Danielle Williams.

Kambundji crossed the line in fifth place with a time of 12.82 seconds, while Nugent finished sixth in 12.98 seconds. Marshall and Williams were unable to complete the race.

Following her triumph in Ghana, Amusan expressed gratitude to her supporters and reaffirmed her determination to achieve even greater success this season. Her strong showing in Shanghai suggests the Nigerian star is building momentum as she targets more titles on the global stage.
