According to Ireporter Online, rights activist Aisha Yesufu has clarified that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is not her political godfather but rather her principal.

Yesufu made the clarification during an interview on Arise Television, where she addressed her political stance and the nature of her support for Obi during the 2023 presidential election. She explained that she was never a member of the Labour Party but supported Obi based on what she described as his empathy, patriotism, and commitment to national development.

The activist stated that she has consistently made it clear that her involvement was as a supporter rather than a party member, noting that her political journey included membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) before later associating with the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

“I don’t have a godfather. Peter Obi is not my godfather. He is my principal,” she said, stressing that her support for Obi was rooted in her belief in his leadership qualities.

Yesufu further expressed confidence in Obi’s character, saying she sees him as a leader who is genuinely concerned about Nigeria’s progress and capable of driving meaningful change.

She also disclosed her intention to fully transition into active politics, stating that her focus, if elected to the Senate to represent the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), would be to ensure accountability in government.

According to her, she would prioritize oversight of the executive arm and would not support what she described as frivolous loan requests, even if presented by Obi should he become president.
