Shettima Commends EFCC, Credits Agency For Nigeria’s Exit From FATF Grey List

Shettima gave the commendation on Tuesday during the official opening of the EFCC’s anti-graft office in Ekiti State, where he emphasized that the commission’s activities have significantly strengthened investor confidence and reinforced ongoing economic reforms in the country.

He reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthening anti-corruption institutions through improved infrastructure, enhanced welfare packages, operational independence, and continuous capacity building for personnel.

The Vice President described the EFCC as a critical institution within Nigeria’s economic and national security architecture, noting its expanding role in tackling corruption, cybercrime, and illicit financial flows. He stated that the agency’s efforts have directly contributed to improving Nigeria’s investment outlook and restoring global financial credibility.

According to him, corruption remains a major threat to public trust and national development, stressing that the administration views the anti-corruption fight as a central pillar of governance. He added that when corruption thrives, the relationship between citizens and the state is weakened.

Commending the leadership and staff of the commission, Shettima called for sustained momentum in the anti-graft war, insisting that strong institutions and well-equipped personnel are essential to long-term success. He assured that government would continue to invest in better working conditions, training opportunities, and operational support for the agency.

He further highlighted the EFCC’s achievements, including the conviction of 192 cybercrime offenders in a single operation, describing it as evidence of the commission’s growing effectiveness in safeguarding Nigeria’s financial system.

Shettima also noted that recovered assets have been channeled into key national development initiatives such as the student loan scheme and other social intervention programmes, underscoring the broader impact of the agency’s recovery efforts.

He urged stronger inter-agency collaboration to curb money laundering and illicit financial networks, warning that such activities often fund insecurity and other criminal enterprises, while affirming that financial crimes would not be tolerated under the current administration.
