YCee Fires Back At Critics: “I Said What I Said” Amid Peller Culture Backlash
Nigerian rapper YCee has reacted to the backlash trailing his recent comments on what he described as the growing rise of “brain-rot” content in Nigeria, insisting he stands by his remarks and has no regrets for mentioning content creator Peller in his example.
According to Ireporter Online, YCee had earlier stirred controversy after labeling the trend an “olodo uprising,” where he argued that a growing number of Nigerians are increasingly consuming content he believes lacks educational value, at the expense of edutainment and intellectually enriching material.
The statement triggered mixed reactions across social media, with critics and public figures faulting the rapper for directly referencing Peller, insisting he could have driven his point without naming individuals.
However, speaking during a recent interview on Cool FM Lagos, YCee maintained that he does not owe anyone an apology, stressing that his reference to Peller was intentional and used to illustrate his argument.
He further stated that his comments have been widely misunderstood and taken out of context, adding that those offended should “check themselves.” YCee also reiterated that his concern is directed at individuals consuming and promoting what he termed brain-rot content, while calling for a shift towards more intelligent and value-driven digital creation, noting that there is no barrier preventing smart individuals from becoming successful streamers or content creators.
